DIRECTORS' MESSAGE

Welcome to the January edition of TA Talk.

We hope you have returned from holidays refreshed, and ready for 2023.

This year we are once more delighted to partner with some outstanding expert presenters, to bring you 10 new live web events.

In February, we kick off our first event with an Introduction to Functional Behaviour Assessment, with John Mayes, PBL Coordinator at Meridan State College, in Queensland. You can register for this live event, and many others now!

The 2023 ATA Professional Development Planner is published, and now lists upcoming events, as well as all our online resources, to assist you to plan your professional learning.

Late last year we improved the process for issuing certificates for PD completed from our Professional Development library. We issued over 100 certificates during the holiday period, and have been impressed by the quality of evidence that members are uploading to their CPD diaries.

Our aspirational goal for this year is to publish the Standards. Late last year, the industry reference group started work on the descriptors, and as these are completed, we will be inviting schools to participate in a review. One of the biggest hurdles we are going to tackle in Term 1 is naming the Standards, as there has not yet been any clear consensus from the feedback received nationally.

We look forward to the year ahead, and wish you a fabulous Term 1.

Warm regards

Mandy and Stella

We have also replaced the last column in the planner with a guide to the knowledge, skills, and understanding developed in each of the resources.

If you haven't used the Professional Development Planner yet, now is the time! It's a useful tool to plan your professional learning for the next 12 months.

STANDARDS UPDATE

Image

The Industry Reference Group (IRG) is committed to ensuring that the Australian Standards for Paraprofessional Educators in Schools is an inclusive document.

Late last year, we started working on the descriptors and have taken a planned approach to intentionally embed inclusive practice. This will ensure that the expectations in the Standards value diversity, and reflect how to support all students to succeed through evidence-based practice.

NEW CERTIFICATE PROCESS

Requesting certificates has just gotten easier!

Late last year, we made an improvement to the way in which members obtain certificates for professional development completed from our Professional Development library.

Members are no longer required to 'request a certificate'. Simply complete your CPD Diary entry, and we will ensure your certificate is uploaded to your portal, within the next 2 weeks.

There was much interest in this post, and for those asking, this was an idea designed by two teachers in the US. We don't know that it is a downloadable resource, however, if you would like one for your classroom, (and you have the time!!) use Canva to recreate the camera images, then paste them to some card before glueing them to the pegs :)
