Introduction to Functional Behaviour Assessment

The recording of this webinar is available in the Professional Development library, under Behaviour.

Functional behaviour assessment (FBA) identifies where, when, and why a behaviour of concern happens, and is used to address the reasons why the behaviour is happening.

In this webinar, John Mayes, Senior Experienced Teacher with Education Queensland, will introduce Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA), and help you develop a clearer understanding of:
•    the basics that underpin student behaviour
•    competing behaviour pathways
•    evidence-based practices to better manage student outcomes.

This webinar is ideally suited to teacher aides in Positive Behaviour for Learning schools, or schools where the teacher aide participates in planning or managing student behaviour outcomes.

Webinar - 10 July, 2018

The 4 Goals of Mistaken Behaviour

The recording of this webinar is available in the Professional Development library, under Behaviour.

Did you know that the feelings triggered by inappropriate behaviour can hold important clues to the way you respond to the behaviour? In this webinar you will learn why a student’s behaviour might cause you to feel annoyed, angry, hurt or helpless, and we will explore how your responses can either reinforce the inappropriate behaviour, or empower the student to learn more appropriate ways to have their needs met.

Supporting Calm Classrooms - Practical Tips for Teaching Assistants

Focus Area 4.3 Encourage and support positive student behaviour.
Focus Area 2.2 Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based strategies to support learning and teaching.

Nellie Wilmot, a Coach and Trainer from Classroom Mastery, joins us as guest presenter to explore practical strategies teaching assistants can use to support calm, predictable classrooms and reduce cognitive load so students can focus and learn. During this webinar, Nellie will share how teaching assistants can -

  • help uphold school behaviour policy and curriculum expectations, reinforce established routines, and provide timely prompts that help students stay on task
  • support regulation, model consistent language and expectations, and intervene early before behaviour escalates
  • reinforce the conditions that allow students to listen, think and respond.

This session is designed to be practical, immediately usable and applicable in both primary and secondary settings. It will suit teaching assistants who want to strengthen their behaviour-support skillset and increase their impact on classroom climate.

This webinar will be presented at 3:30 pm AEST. Check the start time for your location, to avoid disappointment.
