Description:

ATAPS facilitator, Kim Nuske, introduces school leaders to the ATAPS framework in this online course specifically for school leaders. Participants will learn to become a certified ‘ATAPS Facilitator’, equipped with the skills and tools to introduce the ATAPS framework to their own education support teams. Presented over two days, this online course will cover all that is needed to implement and use the ATAPS framework in your school.

In part one of this course, school leaders will:

  • Develop understanding of the ATAPS Framework
  • Enhance their knowledge of the professional domains and stages of professional growth
  • Explore the professional growth expectations and how these apply to teaching assistant
  • Build knowledge of the professional growth process
  • Understand the importance of teaching assistant’s being given opportunity for reflection and goal setting

In part two of this course, school leaders will:

  • Be equipped with tools and resources for introducing ATAPS to their teaching assistants
  • Explore multiple professional learning opportunities already in use at their school
  • Set guidelines for the professional development process for teaching assistants
  • Discover how ATAPS is aligned to the Teacher Standards
  • Be resourced with an implementation timeline and templates

At the completion of this course, school leaders will be certified as ATAPS Facilitators, and will be able to:

  • Introduce their teaching assistant team to the ATAPS Framework
  • Equip teaching assistants with knowledge and skills to use ATAPS
  • Plan and run reflection and goal setting opportunities
  • Lead the development of goal setting
  • Organise and encourage professional learning
  • Embed ATAPS in their school’s professional development process for teaching assistants

On completion of the course, schools can elect to become an accredited ATAPS Partner School™ and display the ATAPS Partner School™ badge on their website.

Please note: Part 1 and 2 of this course will be presented over two days, starting daily from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm AEST on Tuesday 3 March, and Wednesday 4 March 2026. Check the start time for your location, to avoid disappointment.

Kim is a valued member of the Australian Teacher Aide team, and leads our content and delivery unit.

Kim is passionate about inclusive education, she has ten+ years teaching experience, and during that time has taught a range of year groups, and held various leadership roles, including Head of Inclusion in a P-12 school.

Kim completed a Masters Degree with a specialisation in Special Education after recognising that her Bachelor degree in Education did not quite equip her with enough tools to teach the full bell curve of students in her classes.

Kim joined the team at ATA at the beginning of 2024 and is passionate about empowering educators, both teacher aides and teachers, to feel confident in being inclusive educators. Kim was a key contributor to the development and launch of the Australian Teaching Assistant Professional Standards (ATAPS), and she has created many supporting resources since, including the ATAPS Facilitator Training to help school leaders implement the standards framework into their school’s performance and professional growth framework.
